After the death of Maria Callas in Paris on September 16, 1977, her friend and biographer John Ardoin wrote the script for this documentary about her, with Zeffirelli serving as the narrator.

Footage from this documentary has been used in several other films about Maria Callas. Notably, Zeffirelli provided a very similar testimony, this time in Italian, in a RAI program by Idalberto Fei and Giovannella Gaipa titled "Omaggio a Maria Callas", which aired on April 6, 1982, and is also preserved in the Archive.
