The production was performed in Milan until May 20th.
Two years after the first production, Visconti decided to revive "A Streetcar Named Desire" and asked Zeffirelli to create a new staging for a performance that, while retaining the overall direction and the lead actress Rina Morelli, was in fact very different. Starting with the male protagonist, because instead of the energetic Vittorio Gassman, there was an unrecognizable Marcello Mastroianni, blonde and brutal.
The revised set kept the structure of the first edition but abandoned the hyperrealistic style and – created with the use of transparencies – became suggestive and ethereal.
