On the occasion of the 14th FIFA World Cup, hosted by Italy in 1990, the Istituto Luce invited twelve renowned Italian directors to present the twelve Italian cities that would host the matches. Florence was assigned to Zeffirelli, who chose to use the limited time available to narrate the origins and practice of Calcio Storico Fiorentino, capturing the annual reenactment held in June. The tournament features players from the four historic districts of Florence.
