PROSA

- The production was staged in various Italian cities during the 1982-83 season, but no documentation of it is preserved in the Zeffirelli Archive.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Zeffirelli maintained a constant connection with dramatic theatre, staging a total of 20 plays. He was later absorbed by opera commitments and, above all, film projects. Maria Stuarda marked his return to the Italian dramatic stage after an eight-year absence. The production featured a magnificent set design and lavish costumes, but its real strength lay in the unprecedented encounter between the two leading ladies: Valentina Cortese and Rossella Falk, two prominent names, two distinct professional paths, and two very different acting styles."
